Declaration of Deaths occuring in Mauritius.
A death registration may be made at the civil status office of the locality within the district where the death occurred or where the deceased last resided.
After registration a permit is issued authorizing burial/cremation.
One declarant is required at time of registration.

- Birth/marriage certificate

| Declaration of Deaths occuring outside Mauritius.
Where a person has died outside Mauritius and the body is brought to Mauritius for disposal, an officer may, on production to him of a certificate from a Health Inspector that there is no objection to the disposal, issue a permit authorizing the disposal.
Death on Mauritian ship or aircraft.
If a death occur on board any ship or aircraft the Master of the ship shall draw up a declaration of the death and on the arrival of the ship in Mauritius he shall deliver the declaration to the Director who shall transmit it to the Registrar of Civil Status for registration in the appropriate register.
Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
On Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays ,the following civil status offices are opened from 9.00 a.m to 11.00 a.m for death registrations.

| If the services of a civil status officer is required after 11.00 a.m for the registration of a death due to emergency circumstances, members of the public should contact the Police Station of the locality for further information. |
